TIF District Tax Capture Reform Discussions to Begin Soon

Posted on April 17, 2013 by nbrown

The tax capture off of Detroit Zoo and DIA millage by TIF districts have made some legislators on both sides of the aisle want to look at tax capture by TIF districts on a broader scale.  The chair of the House Tax Policy committee, Rep. Jeff Farrington (R-Utica) has stated the possibility of creating a subcommittee to dive deeper into the tax capture issue and we welcome the opportunity to be a part of that process. The Michigan Association of Counties has stressed the frustration of their members in the lack of county opt out abilities and is pushing for reform.

League staff is meeting with legislators and key staff members to let them know the importance of TIF districts in revitalizing our local communities but your help is needed as well.  Please contact your legislators and let them know how integral TIF districts are in your community and the investment and jobs they have brought in.  We can’t let the vital role these TIF districts have played and continue to play in the rebirth of our communities go unheard.
