Rental Inspection Legislation Reintroduced

Posted on April 16, 2013 by Dene Westbrook

Senator Dave Robertson (R-Grand Blanc) has reintroduced legislation from last session that would make multiple changes to the Michigan housing law. SB 313 would limit both registration fees and inspection fees for rental inspections as well as change the timeline for inspections to not less than 6 years but no longer than 10 years. The bill would also require an inspector to inform the lessee of their right to refuse an inspection and request and obtain permission from the lessee to inspect.

The League has expressed opposition to similar legislation in the past, and will oppose this bill as introduced as well.  We are hopeful there will be a workgroup on this issue moving forward.

If you are interested in providing feedback on the bill in question, please feel free to contact me.  Your feedback is, as always, greatly appreciated.
