House considers local preemption on leave time for private employers

Posted on March 7, 2013 by sharkins

Yesterday the House Commerce Committee considered House Bill 4249, a bill that would prohibit local units of government from passing an ordinance or policy requiring private employers to mandate either paid or unpaid leave time for its employees.

While we do not know of any communities who have such policies or are interested in passing such policies, the legislation violates local control, and the League opposed the legislation.

It is expected to be voted on next week.

Samantha Harkins is the Director of State Affairs for the League. She can be reached at 517-908-0306 and sharkins at mml.org.
