Speaker and President Signal Hope on Fiscal Cliff Negotiations

Posted on December 18, 2012 by Dene Westbrook

The past few days Speaker Boehner and President Obama have indicated that they have put tax increases and debt reductions on the table beyond what they had previously stated they would accept, signaling a glimmer of hope that a resolution on the pending tax increases and spending cuts known as the fiscal cliff can be found by the end of the year. Both have stated that they are continuing to meet and have not cut off talks. Meanwhile, coalitions of which the League are part, have continued to step up the public pressure encouraging Congress and the President to come to a deal. Attached is a press release that the Michigan Fix the Debt coalition recently put out. The League’s Dan Gilmartin is part of the Steering Committee.
