Information regarding a new round of EPA grant funding for a technical assistance program for brownfield impacted communities has recently been announced. The deadline for proposals is Nov. 14, 2012. This is a very small grant program, and will take a concerted effort by a community to apply.
The EPA, Office of Brownfields and Land Revitalization, has set aside $5 million nationwide (for an anticipated 9 total grantees) for these assistance programs which will fund specific consultants to work with communities to determine what their best resources and plans are for brownfield properties in their communities. The program guidelines are that no more than $1,000,000 can be spent for communities in Region 5- including Michigan. This could be at least 1 grant for the Midwest states, possibly more depending on the requests for assistance. More information on the program can be found here.
