Bill aiming to increase local income tax collection passes House committee

Posted on September 12, 2012 by sharkins

This morning the House Tax Policy Committee passed HB 5806, a bill that would require the Department of Treasury to include information on the state tax form to aid in collecting city income taxes.

The bill requires a state income tax form to request certain information from the taxpayer including whether they live or reside in a jurisdiction that imposes a city income tax, whether the taxpayer’s employer has withheld this tax and other similar information. The goal of this legislation is to increase collection of local income taxes.

The legislation now heads to the full House for approval.
