Michigan House of Representatives considers bills penalizing public employee strikes

Posted on January 30, 2012 by Dene Westbrook

The Michigan House of Representatives’ Oversight, Reform and Ethics Committee is taking testimony on a package of bills, 50235026, that increase penalties for municipal employees who strike.

Michigan law prohibits public employees from striking, and in talking to our members we’ve determined this is not a problem municipalities in Michigan face.

The Michigan Municipal League has submitted our formal opposition to this legislation in committee.  Another hearing will be held on Tuesday, January 31 at noon.
