SUMMARY:What Comes Next: Reshaping Trial Court Funding in Michigan
DESCRIPTION:Last fall\, the State Court Administrative Office relaunched an “Alternative Funding for Trial Courts Workgroup” under the Michigan Judicial Council (MJC)\, guided by the MJC’s previous work\, the recommendations of the 2019 Trial Court Funding Commission\, and Public Act 47 of 2024. \nThe goal of the workgroup is to develop a new funding model for trial courts. Topics of discussion will include what information will contribute a set “maintenance of effort” (MOE) by local governments to fund their trial courts\, the plan to centralize collections of court assessments and distribute court revenue by the state\, and the necessity of state appropriations to fund local trial courts based on operational funding needs unmet by the MOE. \nThis webinar is intended for municipalities serving as local funding units for their district and municipal trial courts\, so they may learn more about the workgroup’s recommendations and implementation plans. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions.https://my.mml.org/event-information?id=a0lUu000004NhZpIAK
