Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Grants

Question:
Our village is in need of some basic education concerning grants. We are hoping to educate ourselves without incurring the cost of a consultant at least until we come to something we cannot do ourselves. Are there some publications we may obtain? Is there any assistance the League could provide?

Answer:
Searching for grants is very time consuming. Some cities find it necessary to have someone dedicated to grant application and administration.

The Internet provides a great resource for grant seekers. Several sites you might find particularly helpful are:

www.os.dhhs.gov/grants/
www.grantsnet.org/;
www.lib.msu.edu/harris23/grants/grants.htm;

Thirteen Michigan libraries have been designated as collection libraries for information on foundation/ corporation funding. You can contact the League for the site closest to you. Your regional planning agency is also a good source of information. These are listed in the “green pages” of your MML Directory.

One last source of information. From time to time, the League offers workshops on grantsmanship. You should contact the Education Service at the League to see if they have any scheduled in the near future (ehagendorff@mml.org or 734-662-3246).
