Program Explores How to Make a Better Michigan

prosperity agenda radio show The Michigan Prosperity Agenda is a monthly radio show that challenges listeners to help make Michigan a better place to live, work and play by creating vibrant and prosperous local communities. It has aired on News/Talk 760 WJR at 7 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month since January of 2010.

The hour-long radio program is hosted by Dan Gilmartin, CEO of the Michigan Municipal League (the League). The show is sponsored by the League and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA).

We talked to public policy experts from across the state about higher education as a pillar of prosperity in our state and how Michigan's universities have had an economic development impact on the communities where they are located. 	Dan Gilmartin Dan Gilmartin, executive director and CEO of the Michigan Municipal League, explains about how higher education is one of the most significant pillars in Michigan. Dan sets up the show and why colleges and universities are so important to Michigan’s future. Length: 1:20
	Co-Host Emily Fox Emily is a senior at Michigan State University and news director at MSU's student radio station, IMPACT 89FM. She hosts a weekly talk show called IMPACT Exposure, which focuses on topics and issues relevant to Michigan and the MSU community. She discussed what young people are looking for when they select a community where they plan to live. Emily explains what it’ll take to get Michigan’s college graduates to remain in their home state. 	Suzanne Schulz Suzanne is the Director of the Planning Department for the City of Grand Rapids and a small business owner. She talked about how downtown Grand Rapids and her business have been impacted by the presence of Grand Valley State University. 	Omar Blaik Omar is the President and CEO of U3 Ventures, a firm focused on the university market. He discussed his work with the educational and medical institutions in the City of Detroit and how this effort has impacted economic development in this community. 	David Lossing David wears many hats including serving as mayor in the city of Linden and as director of government relations for the University of Michigan – Flint.
