Michigan Municipal Review is the official magazine of the Michigan Municipal League, the state’s association of cities and villages. The Review, which has been published continuously since 1928, is a forum for the exchange of ideas and opinions of local officials and information affecting municipal government. The Review is published six times per year and is available online for members only.

Press Releases
We do not publish press releases related to company personnel changes, new clients/contracts or new products. Press releases should relate to a company’s project work with a Michigan city or village, and should outline what other municipalities could learn or adapt.

Feature Articles
Michigan Municipal Review relies on article contributions from consultants and local officials. We do not pay for editorial contributions. Articles should be about municipal projects or told from the municipal perspective. We feel that subtlety is the most effective way to give your firm’s expertise the credibility it deserves. Articles are not features about any company, and we ask that consultants not refer to their company directly. Article bylines in Michigan Municipal Review are the author’s name and any credential initials. An author biography box appears at the end of each article and includes the author’s name, title, company, phone number and email address.

Each issue of Michigan Municipal Review includes several columns written by staff of the Michigan Municipal League or third party administrators of some of the League’s services:

• Legislative Policy Analysis – In-depth discussion by members of the MML advocacy team of key legislative topics that are having a profound impact on municipal operations, or are likely to if the legislation is approved.

• From the Field – Features about communities in Michigan’s northern regions.

• Legal Spotlight – Highlights of a recent judicial decision or MML Legal Defense Fund case that impacts municipalities.

• Legislator Salute – Spotlights the career achievements and local government support of Michigan legislators.

• Focus on Technology – Discussion of emerging and useful technologies that municipal governments and local officials should understand and be able to use.

• So Glad You Asked! – Questions and answers on a variety of municipal topics.

In alternating or occasional issues

• Improving Municipal Operations – Articles relating to municipal management, finances and human resources.

• MML Foundation – Accomplishments and ongoing programs of MML’s 501(c)3 foundation and its efforts to assist the League in educating municipal officials.

• Municipal Bulletin Board – Very short articles about a variety of municipal topics, including municipal benchmarking examples, award announcements, helpful resources, appointments, grant availability, etc.

• Retirement Planning Issues – Articles relate to retirement, pensions, defined contribution plans and investments

• Risk Management Tips – Articles relate to municipal liability, property insurance and workers’ compensation, and managing the associated risks to minimize liability.
