Region Five Education Seminar Highlights

The Region 5 Seminar held in Algonac on May 16, 2008 was a huge success!  Speaker Larry Kaufman, energy expert for DTE Energy spoke about renewable energy.  He explained the five types available to consumers as well as the cost of each.  He also compared these costs to the cost of current energy.  Speaker Michael Wilczynski of DEQ talked about Michigan’s economic development program and how it is currently at risk due to limited funding.

Representatives Terry Brown (D-Pigeon), John Espinoza (D-Croswell), Phillip Pavlov (R-Saint Clair), and John Stahl (R-North Branch) answered audience questions about current events at the Capitol.  They discussed education, revenue sharing and its importance, and the pros and cons of term limits and how they affect the Legislature. 

Community Excellence Award
The votes are in!  After many excellent presentations by officials across the region, attendees chose the city of Marysville as the Region 5 Community Excellence Award winner finalist.  This win places Marysville in the running for the ultimate win—the 2008 Community Excellence Award Cup!  The final competition will be fierce, pitting the winner from each region against each other for the BIG win, which will be announced at the 2008 Annual Convention on Mackinac Island, October 1-4, 2008.  Don’t miss out—register early (June 2) to come out to vote for your favorite project.  Congratulations to the City of Marysville!
