Social Media Is Where It’s At
There’s Still Time to Register!
The League will be hosting the “Social Media – Is Your Community Ready?” training in Alpena on October 7, 2010. This training will explore social media basics, as well as what an employer should do to establish policy governing the use of social networking sites as it pertains to the reputation and integrity of the organization and to safeguard protected or confidential information. Employers have heightened interests in controlling the job-related speech made by an employee in their professional capacity and they can require that all employee communication on official business, no matter where it is, must be accurate, demonstrate sound judgment, and promote the employer's mission.

Medical Marihuana Act Workshop Video
The League has offered a number of workshops on the Medical Marihuana Act and its role in your community. Last week, we were fortunate to record the entire workshop, making it available to League members for free!
Learn from experienced experts Melanie Brim, Bureau of Health Professions Director at the Michigan Department of Community Health; Andria Ditschman, Attorney at the Hubbard Law Firm; and Catherine Mish, City Attorney of Grand Rapids, as they discuss the options available to communities and what several Michigan municipalities have done in light of the new law.

Harness the Power of Entrepreneurship in Your Community
The Michigan Municipal League Foundation is proud to host a series of entrepreneurial seminars throughout Michigan, October 26-29, 2010 by Ernesto Sirolli, the founder and CEO of The Sirolli Institute. Entrepreneurship and the power of growing jobs are central to growing communities in the 21st century economy. The Sirolli method shows local officials how to harness the power of local entrepreneurs to bring sustainable change through "entrepreneur facilitation." They've had remarkable success in communities across the country and around the world, in places large and small, rural and urban.
If you are a visionary leader willing to consider a whole new approach to achieve transformational change, bring a team of key stakeholders to learn how this method might be what you've been waiting for!
