Amendment to PA 54 Would Undo Last Year's Reforms
A new bill introduced last month would amend PA 54 of 2012, the law prohibiting retroactive wage increases, to exempt police officers and firefighters. HB 5780 seeks to undo one of last year's important reforms by exempting those employees who are subject to PA 312. Our members have hailed PA 54 as a success because it has allowed for the settlement of contracts more quickly and has resulted in cost savings and fewer PA 312 arbitrations. MORE>

Emergency Manager Law Repeal Ordered to be on November Ballot - There will be at least one measure on the November ballot, with six more waiting in the wings. The Michigan Supreme Court, on a split 4-3 decision, has ordered the State Board of Canvassers to place on the ballot the referendum calling for the repeal of Public Act 4. MORE>
