Please Attend Press Conference Wednesday on Personal Property Tax!

Michigan Municipal League members are encouraged to attend a press conference 10:30 a.m. Wednesday about the personal property tax issue. The League, as part of the Replace Don’t Erase coalition, will have a press conference 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Lansing City Fire Station #1, 120 East Shiawassee (corner of Shiawassee and Grand), Lansing. The press conference is in response to bills that we expect to be introduced Tuesday (April 17) that would significantly cut personal property tax revenues to local communities without constitutionally guaranteed replacement. Webinar to Inform League Members about PPT Bill Set for Friday - The Michigan Municipal League will have a free webinar 10-10:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, to inform our members about legislation that would significantly cut personal property tax revenues to local communities without a constitutionally guaranteed replacement. The webinar will feature League Lansing staff members Summer Minnick and Andy Schor, who will answer questions about the bills that are expected to be introduced today (April 17, 2012). MORE>

Federal Budget and Deficit Reduction - Pass a Resolution - Although the House and Obama administration have each put forward their vision of the federal budget for fiscal year 2013, no one expects much to happen until after the November election. This of course means election year politics will play a heavy hand in what the presumptive Republican nominee, Governor Romney, and President Obama say over the next six months. It also means that local officials have a great opportunity to speak with their congressional representatives about the 2013 budget. MORE>

League CEO Dan Gilmartin to Give Keynote Address at Urban Land Institute Conference - Michigan Municipal League CEO & Executive Director Dan Gilmartin will give the keynote address during the 3rd Annual Public/Private/Partnership (P3) Conference in Grand Rapids April 19. The event, taking place at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids, is jointly sponsored by the Urban Land Institute of Michigan and the Michigan Municipal League. The past two conferences in Rochester and Lansing have been overwhelming successes and attracted more than 450 of the state's leading real estate developers, investors, public officials, academics and professional service provider. Gilmartin will give the keynote address and discuss how to balance community wants with market realities. MORE>
