Michigan Public Service Commission to Investigate Smart Meters
Last week the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) issued a press release announcing it would be launching an investigation into the installation of smart meters by Michigan's regulated utilities. Michigan Governor Snyder Creates Information, Communications and Technology Innovation Fund for State and Locals - Michigan Governor Rick Snyder created the Information, Communications and Technology Innovation Fund when he issued Executive Directive 2012-1 this week. The fund will allocate $2.5 million to assist state and local governments with technology projects that otherwise would go unfunded. The directive establishes management responsibilities as well as an investment board within the Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB). The money will be allocated like a venture capital fund, where the funds would be repaid. MORE>

Immigrants Add Economic Value to Michigan - A new report by the Immigration Policy Center shows Michigan's immigrant population growing, excelling educationally and contributing to the state's economy. Using the latest census data, the report shows that in 2010, immigrants made up 6 percent of the state's population or 587,747 persons. This compares to 1990 when the figure was 3.8%. MORE>
