No Cuts to Revenue Sharing for FY 2011 State Budget!

This morning, the conference committee on General Government met to pass HB 5880 unanimously. That bill contains revenue sharing and was funded at a level equal to what communities received in FY 2010. Now the bill goes to the full House and Senate for passage, which we expect to happen today or possibly tomorrow. MORE>

State Affairs Update

League Working to Get Public Works Program Restored – On Monday, staff met with the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) along with public works officials from several communities to urge the reinstatement of the prisoner work crew program. This program was eliminated several months ago as part of budget cutbacks. The MDOC indicated that the program was too expensive for it to continue to operate; however, many of our members have indicated they would be willing to pay more because the program is so valuable. Federal Transportation Funding Bill Coming Next Year – Reports out of Washington indicate the administration will release detailed proposals for a surface transportation reauthorization bill and national infrastructure bank with the Fiscal Year 2012 budget in February 2011. The comments were made by USDOT Undersecretary Roy Kienitz following his recent testimony before the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. MORE>
