Transit
and TOD Considered in Planning and Zoning
Last
week the House Intergovernmental Committee reported two bills
– HB
5211 and 5212 – that include transportation and transportation-oriented
development as part of planning and zoning. The laws currently
have a list of things that need to be reviewed when a master
plan or zoning ordinance is reviewed and updated, including
location, character, extent of streets, railroads, airports,
bike paths, etc. MORE>

Efforts Stop Reid Amendment – Last week,
the U.S. Senate considered HR 4899, a supplemental appropriation
to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Without even a hearing,

that would incorporate language from his legislation, S. 3194
mandating collective bargaining for public safety employees,
not unlike Michigan's own "PA 312". Because of your
efforts, the amendment was withdrawn and the bill was passed
without it! MORE>
